Just say Hola! but in spanish you don't need to pronounce the "H" so it sounds like 'Ola"

buenos días early day is good buenas tardes afternoon Buenas noches later on

follow up with a Cómo estás?, How are you? (informal) Cómo está usted? (formal) or start off with a Hola.

Is it for answering the phone, or conversation? Many countries answer the phone as "aló", others say "hola" , or "que hubo". It depends in what area/country you are at the time, and then you will know what's appropiate. Or ask the Spanish people. Hope it helps.

I actually had this question before under a yahoo answer question but I didn't get any results. I don't think spanish has a shorten form of hello like english does.

I did find this word: ¿aló?
