"...como el brazo de un guitarrista."
En un continente de muchas canciones, en un país alargado como el brazo de un guitarrista, un aguacero resonaba en las calles de Temuco.
As far as I can tell, this translates as, "On a continent of many songs, in a country long like the arm of a guitarist, a downpour echoed in the streets of Temuco."
However, I'm a little confused about the meaning of, "un país alargado como el brazo de un guitarrista."
Is this a cultural idiom? I can't think of any reason a guitar player's arm would be particularly long, so I don't think I understand the comparison. Thanks for any help you can give me!
Sincerely,
Confused

Actually it looks pretty close. Just to get the essence of what the author means is probably describing the place Temuco, and the country Chile which is described as the long arm or an arm of a tall guitarist, and that there was pouring rain in the town of Temuco. The beginning phrase seems to make sense with a direct translation also.
It would be stretched out over a guitar playing the final note , with his arm outstretched.
