I think "Sydney" would still be pronounced, more or less, the same. I have a Hispanic friend named Rodney but he pronounces it Rodnéy (rrohd NAY - with a trilled "r" and the emphasis on the last syllable). "Sydney" might be seed NAY...I'm not sure.
