I know in the present tense you can say your doing something that started in past and ended in the future such as Hace ocho años que vivimos aquí or Busco trabajo desde hace un mes. I'm confused because I don't know when to use which form.

Hace + expression of time + que + verb

or

Present tense verb + desde hace + espression of time

Both are valid: e.g.: "Desde hace tiempo busco trabajo" or "Hace tiempo busco trabajo"

Also: "Hace ocho años que vivimos aquí" or "Desde hace ocho años que vivimos aquí"

There is no difference for the hispanohablantes.
