Durante el sermon echaba a menudo una buena siesta.

I don't understand the last part of it where it says "echaba a menudo una buena siesta". What does it mean?

He often napped (long duration) during the sermon. I wouldn't even hazard to name the uses for echar.

Echarse la siesta - To take a siesta

Hoy me voy a echar una siesta, que ayer me fui a la cama muy tarde - Today I?m going to have a siesta, as I went to bed very late last night.
