I am practicing spanish by translating sentences or phrases from my the "The Labyrinth Cat". I believe it is a good way utilize my spanish skills and enhance my grammar skills. I have completed three years in spanish at the university level. I am officially done with my minor in spanish.

English: I heard that it was closed down a long time ago

Attempt 1: Escuché que estaba cerrado hace mucho tiempo

English: I guess I didn’t need it anymore…
Attempt: Supongo que no lo necesitara más

English: Once I got used to the building

Attempt: Cuando me acostumbré al edificio

Mafalda´s suggestions are correct; however, you could also say these sentences in other tenses, ie: "Oí que se había cerrado desde hace mucho tiempo" and "Ya de una vez acostumbrado al edificio, ................"

This, however, is answered in the wrong tense

I guess I didn’t need it anymore… Creo que ya no lo necesitaré más.

It should be something like "Supongo que ya no lo/la necesitaba."

Okay, I understand. I wonder why I shouldn't use supongo but it appears that I was correct in this usage. - Tasear, Dec 18, 2011
Right. You could also use "me imagino" - 005faa61, Dec 18, 2011

...well, Spanish as English have different levels, and sometimes is difficult to translate if one doesn't have the full context, but here is what I gathered

I heard that it was closed down a long time ago Oí que hace tiempo lo cerraron Oí que lo cerraron hace mucho tiempo

I guess I didn’t need it anymore… Creo que ya no lo necesitaré más.

Once I got used to the building Cuando me acostumbré al edificio Ya que me acostumbré al edificio Una vez que me acostumbré al edificio ---- se me hizo fácil abrir todas las puertas

Hola Mafalda, bienvenida al Foro. Buena respuesta. Edité el texto tratando de adivinar dónde querías el texto en itálicas. Espero que esto sea lo que deseabas hacer. Saludos. - Gekkosan, Dec 18, 2011

What did I learn? Esuchar vs oir

Esuchar means to listen

Oir means to hear

It seems that mixed the definitions between these words.
