Why can the subjunctive be such a difficult mode?
I have read various grammar books on the subjunctive and it has helped me better understand this difficult mode or tense. I continue practicing my Spanish by speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Do you have any advice on how to better understand the subjunctive? Muchas gracias, Javier Herrera

Good on you for tackling the subjunctive - here's a suggestion; instead of thinking of it as being 'so difficult' how about appreciating that it's a facet of the language that allows for further expression.
For example imagine if in English you wanted to tell someone that you 'may' or 'might' do something - that's quite different from telling someone that you 'are' doing something; well in that case if you were speaking Spanish the subjunctive is the mood that would allow you to communicate the 'may' or 'might' so it's a gr8 part of the language. And of course that's just one example, the subjunctive is a very useful mood which allows for much greater expression in the language - including requesting that someone do something for you or expressing how you hope that someone will do something plus much more; and once you've explored and learnt about how to use it you'll come to love and appreciate it - keep up the good work ![]()
