I wonder why I learn Spanish?

Hola amigos,

I have begun learing Spanish 2 months ago during this forum, and since that people around me do not stop asking me why I am learning Spanish. In fact I have no answer for this question. Some of them suggested to learn French instead of Spanish. I can assure you that I do not use Spanish in my daily life, and it seems I won't use it in the near future.

All I know is that I getting addicted to Spanish and to this forum, and spendig more and more time trying to improve my Spanish. All I know that knowing another language won't hurt.

I wonder if anybody face the same situation like me. I wonder if people get addicted to Spain. Is it addictive langage. My wife suspects that Ihave a Spanish girlfreind.

Saludos

Sorry about that! That would be a silly question. Who cares why you decide to learn Spanish, or Japanese, etc. Learning anything could be addictive specially if you have an addictive personality. If that is the case, great for you! You might think that you do not use Spanish in your daily life, but who knows what the future holds for you? You might be presented with a wonderful opportunity that you could snatch because of it. Same here, I did not use English in my daily life, but I decide to learn it and it has been such a blessing! Now I live in the U.S and I am glad I am bilingual!

Thanks annierats, besides that, you can never go wrong learning another language. The more you learn, the better you are! - farallon7, Dec 14, 2011
It appears that there is a basic agreement here! - kmaakheru, Dec 14, 2011

There was an American man at my Spanish church service tonight who overheard me speaking Spanish. He approached me and said "So, what's your story? Why do you speak Spanish?"

I wish I had a story, but I don't. I just like it. That's enough, right? smile

If you're enjoying it, does it matter why? It's a world language! You're improving your knowledge of other cultures, you have a new interest, new dreams and new holiday destinations.

My husband probably thinks I have a Spanish lover, but, sadly, not yet.

Suerte y bienvenido al foro de los locos.

The reason I learn Spanish is because it was the best language the Uni had, after they didn't teach Russian (which I had wanted to learn). But now I stick with it because I enjoy, and the people at Spanishdict are welcoming and understanding of my limitations.

If that came off too fond, I'm quite drunk right now. Lo siento.

It appears that you have an addictive personality and should question "Why" you would be learning any language; especially if you are not using them in your daily life. People are addicted to many things; usually to compensate for deeper considerations. No, language in and of itself will not "Hurt."
