'tu' and 'su' appear to be used interchangeably as a second person pronoun. Is there any grammatical distinction between the two?

'tu' translates to the possessive pronoun of the familiar 'you', and 'su' translates to the possessive pronoun of the formal 'you' or the third person 'he' or 'she'.
Your (familiar) name :: tu nombre
Her name His name Your (formal) name :: su nombre
