When is aca appropriate and when is aqui appropriate?

Acá (and allá) are used "in motion". For example, you would use aquí with quedarse, but acá with venir.
Aquí nos quedamos. We're staying (right) here.
¡Ven por acá! Come (over) here!
¡Por acá! This way!
