I'm unclear on when to use "honor" and when to use "honra." Are they interchangeable?

In England we spell it ' honour'. We're very oldfashioned! - annierats, Dec 12, 2011
As this is so interesting I vote it up even though it's died on us. - annierats, Dec 12, 2011

I found this wordreference thread useful.

Honor is a masculine noun.

Honrar is a verb that gives rise to the feminine noun honra.

Add the third word, honradez, for fun.

Thank you, sounds like they are synonyms but not totally interchangeable due to set phrases like "es un honor." - kimmeister, Dec 12, 2011
Thank you pesta, it never occoured to me it was the feminine version.. - annierats, Dec 12, 2011
I'm voting for you even if the question is answered, soy una mujer honrada. - annierats, Dec 12, 2011

Im learning spanish and had the same question...

No estoy seguro si te ayude!

Use "honor" if you are speaking in English.

Use "honra" if speaking in Spanish.

The meaning is the same.

"Honor" is also a word in Spanish, thus the question. - kimmeister, Dec 12, 2011

Wow! ¡No lo sabía! - Goyo, Dec 12, 2011
"Honor" was the Spanishdict.com word of the day just a couple of days ago. :-) - kimmeister, Dec 12, 2011

Es un gran honor.. It's a great honour..

Era un soldado honrado. He was an honourable soldier.

Somebody else will have to fit ' honra' in, it's not a form I've heard.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist, kimmeister, somebody will explain. - annierats, Dec 12, 2011
"Honra" is all over the Bible in Spanish (e.g. Revelacion 4:11), that's where I've seen it. - kimmeister, Dec 12, 2011
Ok, i'm not religous, I take your word for that. - annierats, Dec 12, 2011
