El agua & la carne
Just took lesson 3 and noticed what I think is an inconsistancy. Shouldn't it be la agua and el carne?

Sometimes in Spanish masculine words end in "a" and feminine words end in "o" (words that end in "e" can be either). Normally this isn't the case but, after all, what are "rules" without exceptions?
This can also happen when a word gets shortened. For example; la foto (photo, picture) which is a shortened version of la fotographía (photography, photograph).
Rules of thumb can be handy but you should try not to rely too heavily on them. Good luck!

Words that end in E can be both genders and need to be learned one by one.
