Could somebody point me in the direction where I can find out the many meanings of Ya.

I understand, Ya he pedido - I have already ordered, Ya no fumo - I don't smoke anymore, but it seems to be used on many other occasions.

Thanks

Did you look here: http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/ya ? I don't think you'll get a better explination than that - rabbitwho, Dec 11, 2011

Here are a few. I am sure there are many more.

Ya - Already

Ya - Now

Ya - Right now

Ya - No longer

Ya - Used for emphasis as in ya lo sé

No ya - Not only

Ya no - Not any more, no longer

Ya que - Now that, since

Ya, pero - Yes, but

¡Ya, ya! - Yes, yes, oh yes, yes sure

¡Ya está - That's it

¡Ya está bien - That's (quite) enough)

¡Ah, ya! - Oh yes, of course

And I'm setting myself an exercise (right now!) to use each of the expressions you have so graciously provided in a new sentence every day till I master themexcaim

Thanks for your "gift," Eddy! grin
