What is the word that a person would use for the word "overnight" according to the following examples.
I stayed at my friends house overnight.
It was a overnight trip.
My guess: por la noche ( for the night)

Unlike English the Spanish translation seems to change depending on context: 
to stay 'overnight' - pasar la noche or hacer noche
it was an 'overnight' trip - fue un viaje de noche
and another one would be: there had been a heavy fall of snow ~ durante la noche había nevado mucho;
