Regional Differences: condescendencia

During a recent Castillian Spanish conversation class a word cropped up that many of the participants had trouble pronouncing fluently. The word was,

Condescendencia

The problem appeared to be the "esc" in the middle of the word and using the "th" sound after the "s". This problem disappears when the word is pronounced as in Southern Spain which many of the class started to do.

Have other members come across similar words which are easier to pronounce using a regional variation?

I never use the TH, it took me long enough to get the English one right I'm not about to try it in Spanish! - rabbitwho, Dec 10, 2011

It's much easier to pronounce if you split the word into two syllables, ie: Condes/cendencia however when spoken rapidly, the s will tend to disappear a little.

Interesting. I was almost dropping the first "th" which gave the word a mixture of both regions. - Eddy, Dec 10, 2011
