What is the nickname Mop¿ in Costa Rica.

HOla Mop. I thought it may have to do with the Ministry of obras publicas. I thought it was like making a joke and saying someone was an employee because they were doing not much. I asked someone online and they said it was something to do with primo. being said MOPRI¿ then mop for even shorter. not sure i buy that . anyone know for sure.

In Costa Rica both "mae" and "mop" are used like "dude" or "man," but I'm not sure what the origins of this are.
