Google translator APl has been shut down by Google

Half of the recent questions in this section of the forum have been related to this so I said I'd post one thread to let everyone know.

http://blog.gts-translation.com/language/es/2011/05/27/romper-noticia-google-a-cerrar-abajo-traducir-api/

In fairness to Google they did give a warning about it about 2 months ago.. but who reads Google's blogs?? heh.

Any part of this site that was reliant on Google translator will no longer work.

(note: the filter blocked me writing api in capitals so I wrote ap lowercase L, if we could be allowed 4 capital letters in a row instead of 2 that would be really nice)

Just to clarify: http://translate.google.com/ still works, it's only when used offsite that it is no longer free and must be paid for by the site/app owners. - rabbitwho, Dec 9, 2011
I wonder how much it costs. The ads running down the right side of my SD screen are beginning to annoy me ! - ian-hill, Dec 9, 2011
You can see the news is a bit old, they've been shutting down different parts at different times and I don't know which specifically affects SpanishDict. Google Dictionary is gone as well, you can only use it thorugh the google search engine now - rabbitwho, Dec 9, 2011
Thanks for the info, rabbit. :) - hollyjollyberry, Dec 9, 2011
Bing's translator is available. - scratch2486, Dec 9, 2011

Well, I know nothing of the A P I (you can type all caps as long as you leave spaces between them), or how it all affects this site in particular.

However, Google can still be used for translations:

http://translate.google.com

That works perfectly well, and is as free as always.

Yup, I mentioned that in the comments, the point is that's the only place you can use google translate now, which is why Spanish Dict has lost so many features. - rabbitwho, Dec 9, 2011

I bet it would cost a lot. There are alternative sites that do the same thing but not as well. Maybe if all of the parts that used google's tool gave them credit and a link back to them they would cut a deal with SpanishDict ? - rabbitwho, Dec 9, 2011
