When shoul I use ser in a sentence verses estar

Oh you and me both buddy ! I cannot get it sunk into this old brain , I memorise
the rules and then when push comes to shove I get it wrong, I am getting
convinced that maybe a toss of the coin will give me at least a 50/50 chance ,
at the moment it is 99 to 1. And I am the (1 ) .
