why isn't llover stem changing?
i know that in imperfect past tense it is llovia, but I don't know why. if dormir is stem changing, then why wouldn't llover be? It's not in any of the irregular lists i've ever seen.

Llover IS a stem-changing verb. By the way, dormir is dormía in the imperfect. The stem usually changes only in the present tense (this is not always the case, though).
Examples:
(Llover) llueve = it rains
(Dormir) duerme = it sleeps
