I read the article and did catch a bit of this on the news Swampy. I agree with his statements in a broad sense. I don't think it has as much to do with which socio-economic group the kids belong to as much as it does with the way all (or most) kids are raised today.

I work with teens all the time. I can tell you that now more than ever, there is a sense of entitlement with kids. They expect so much for nothing.

Parents used to make their children work after school, or on weekends, or during summer break, to earn extra money to buy what they wanted. They gave them a list of chores to do to earn their allowances. No chores, no allowances. Today, parents find it easier to skip the chores and buy their kids what they want, which is no good for anyone and no good for society.

We have a close family friend who owns over forty KFC's and Taco Bells. According to him, the majority of the teens who work for him act as if they are doing "him" a favor by showing up to work and earning minimum wage. Instead of being thankful for the job, they act as if it is beneath them, although they have no prior work experience.

There are still some amazing kids out there who are willing to work hard for what they want. But we as parents need to step it up and expect more from our kids.

Newt throws bombs. That's his style. Some of them land on innocent victims, and some even land on himself. He always finds a way to implode. Just give him time. That's why he's unelectable.

I'm not expressing any opinion as to agree/disagree with his policies, because that would be trolling. smile
