how do I translate 'sound out a word'?

I teach Kindergarten in a dual immersion Spanish classrroom. What verb do I use for sounding out a word, decifrar or sondear? Also how would you translate blending, the act of making the sounds in sequence to pronounce the complete word. I understand that most sounding out in spanish is done by syllables, but there are some closed syllables that may need to be sounded out by each letter.

You can use:

"decir" o pronunciar" la palabra.

You can ask, ¿Cuál es el sonido de la palabra?

Vocalizar, is used too, but I don't think a kindergarten kid will understand.

Not sure though.

Ejercicio de vocalización- Escoger una palabra y pronunciarla lentamente, varias veces, con voz alta, para captar la emisión del sonido de cada sílaba. Luego, se escribe la palabra, y al lado, se escribe, separándola en sílabas.

otro

Si usted sondea palabras y sílabas como usted las lee entonces usted “secundario-vocalizing”
