Note: This word will be the official Word of the Day and will be posted January 5, 2012.

Notice: This will be the official word of the day for the Día de Tres Magos, or the Day for the Three Wise Men, in Spain.

If you have ideas for good words, please send me a PM – I will make it a future word of the day.

This thread is kindly moderated by drvicente. Please correct your posts according to drvicente’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

Si fuera un rey, haría chocolate la moneda oficial de mi reino.

If I were a king, I would make chocolate the official currency of my kingdom.

Se debe mostrar respeto si se le presenta a un rey.

One should show respect if presented to a king.

Each man wants to feel that he is king of his castle.

First try: Cada hombre quiere sentir que el es el rey de su castillo.

Correction: Cada hombre quiere sentirse como el rey de su castillo.

( Aunque aparecía que el rey es mejor que otra gente puede ser un consuelo que él tambien necesita el dentista.) That was a bad example of learner Spanish ,

with vicentes help and improvement

Me parece que el rey es mejor que otra gente y quizás sea un consuelo que necesita consultar a un dentista.

It may appear as though the king is better than other people and it could be a consolation that he too needs the dentist.

at the dentists

Si no quieres que Los Reyes Magos pasen de largo porque has sido un niño malo, les pones un vasito de leche y unas galletas y seguro que no fallas!!! wink

If you don't want the Three Wise Men to pass you by because you have been a naughty child, you put out a glass of milk and some cookies for them and you won't fail!

The ''Jungle Book'' film, based on the story by Rudyard Kipling, that features a song with the words ''King of the Swingers.''

= La película, ''The Jungle Book'' basada en la historia por Rudyard Kipling aparece una canción con las palabras: ''King of the Swingers.''

Editor's note/s: I was unsure whether I should be using the transitive or intransitive form of the verb to mean ''to feature'' which I had looked up in my Oxford Spanish Dictionary and double checked in the SpanishDict online dictionary which gave aparacer and figurar as the verb used to mean to feature.

Sometimes the examples given in any dictionary do not give suitable models on which to base your answer and far from clarifying the issue make it harder to work out your answer.

Corrijan mi español, por favor grin

Original sentence:

*La película, ''The Jungle Book'' está basada en la historia por Rudyard Kipling que aparece una canción que se llama: ''King of the Swingers.''**
