How can you care enough about a language to have it permanently etched into your skin but not enough to bother to learn it?

Only do it when you can speak the language. To me, it seems ignorant having writing you can't read (such as people having chinese symbols). I agree with what Rabbitwho said.

This would translate as something like,
Que Dios bendiga a mi familia.
Two pieces of advice,
1) Don't do it. Tatoos are a fashion statement. What happens when the fashion changes. You can't get rid of a tatoo easily or cheaply.
2) Don't do it for the reasons given in 1) above.
