Hmmm

Estar en teatro = you're an actor or something like that.

Estar en el teatro = is to be in the theater watching a movie/play or that you are an actor or something like that.

Estar de teatro = having gone to the theater, you are doing your work perhaps as a movie goer. smile

Hiya.

1.. you can't forget your definite articles el (los) / la (las) --> the (singular and plural)

2.. the use of de means from or of
when you use de with the articles you will encounter 2 things

de + el --> del. Maybe you've heard "voy del baño". Perhpas not, but its an example.

de + la --> no change

3.. now back to your question.

estar en el/la (location) -- to be in (location)

*estar en (verb) del /de la (location) - estoy en camnio del teatro

4.. this is out of the scope of your question but, you FYI

comes from - venir de ...esta manzana viene del campo (this apple comes from the fields)

is from - ser de (because it's a characteristic) ....ella es de Chile (she's from Chile), or, ella es de gente dura (she comes from strong stock/people)
