Photos as promised
I am sure I have bored you all rigid talking about my ferrets but a few mad folk have asked for photos of them. I decided the other day it was about time I at least tried to get some decent photos, not easy as they don't like to keep still except when they are asleep.
This is my attempt, my camera memory card was full of blurs as ferret disappeared off the screen and as you can see I never got good shots of some of them.
This is a public link so you should all be able to see it.

Awwww... I'd love to have a couple, but I'm afraid my little doggies would think they were squirrels and try to chase them! So, I guess I won't be able to get any. But they sure look cuddly.. are they? Do they like to be handled very much?
Thanks for sharing, Mary!
most of the people (here) think ferrets are forest animals
They are not the only ones, even over here many people think they are wild animals. They do have wild cousins but they have been domesticated for about 2000 years.
This is a famous painting called Lady with Ermine, which is actually believed to be a domestic ferret,it is by Leonardo da Vinci from around 1489.
They're great. I don't know if it seems weird to you, but I learnt from you that ferrets can be pets. They aren't very popular here and most of the people (here) think ferrets are forest animals. So, your pictures made me google the word ferret and read about them.
Parecen muy graciosos!
Me quedo con Dumbledore....
Un saludo!
They're cute Mary. A friend of mine had one years ago. Are they difficult to care for?

Like dogs and cats they all have different personalities, some will wriggle as soon as you pick them up, they just want to be down and playing, others love their cuddles, more so as they get older. All of them love interacting with humans, playing with cat toys and such like. Although some of the rescues can take a while to learn that people are not going to hurt them any more :(
As for getting on with dogs my dog loves them and he is so dopey they chase him rather than the other way round, but with some you do need to be careful. most people with both keep the dogs away for ferret playtimes.

So long as you have at least two, they really need company, and a nice big cage and are willing to let them out for at least an hour a day they are easier than a dog, no long walks needed. Obviously with the number I have their is a lot of cage cleaning but a cage for two only takes a few minutes day to keep clean. They are kind of addictive but you don't notice the extra work so much when it gradually builds up.
Vet bills are high though, specially in the States, as they are classed as exotics and, due to inbreeding by the big breeders, American ferrets seem particularly prone to various forms of cancer.
There are loads of good forums online for info about them, both UK and US based,
There's a guy lives near me that keeps a pet ferret. In summer he often sits outside his house with the little fella' on a leash. Absolutely adorable and obviously well accustomed to people. This guy is popular with everyone - young and old. Not difficult to see why.
Adorable!!
What do ferrets ferret out? as in to "ferret out something"

Ah they are BEAUTIFUL! And obviously well loved. I want to kidnap them!

All sorts, the saying is very apt as they are endlessly curious, they love to explore anything new and their aim in life is to get into anything that they are not allowed in, wheter that is another room or a locked cupboard.
They also love to hide things, they all have their favourite items to stash when we move the cooker to clean we find loads of stolen things, pegs, dog toys, they have even taken a wallet and keys.
