To get angry

Question

I have just taken a look at lesson 3.14 - To Become (to get) with Ponerse.

I think I can say:

A veces me pongo enojado con John = Sometimes I get angry with John

But how would I say:

John is making me angry (ie I am angry now with John - in the process of being angry).

I thought:

Me pongo enojando con/por John.

or

Estoy enojando con/por John

or

John hace que estoy enojando

or perhaps the subjunctive here

John hace que esté enojando.

or perhaps (highly likely) something completely different jeje!

Lo más fácil: "John me está cabreando" --> John is making me angry.

I am angry now with John --> Yo estoy ahora enfadado/enojado con John.

Me pone enojado John, or Me estoy poniendo John --> NO es correcto.

Lo más cercanos es " John me enfada/enoja/cabrea"

Por cierto, en España se usa más enfadar o cabrear. Enojar no se usa mucho, creo que es más español de américa.

Consider

Me pone enojado John, or Me estoy poniendo John.

Similar to English - John makes / is making me angry.

John is the subject of the sentence, me is the direct object.

Hi Billy!

"To get annoyed" is exactly "enfadarse". You just don't need the bit "poner".

"To annoy someone" is "enfadar" (a alguien). Not pronominal.

Enfadarse is the most common term to hear. Cabrearse is also common, but it is more colloquial. Enojarse is hardly heard in Spain.

Sometimes I get angry with John--> A veces me enfado con John (enfadarse)

John is making me angry --> John me está enfadando (enfadar, a mí)

Note the use of (Estar + gerund) to express continuous action, as in English. No subjunctive required, all the statements you wrote are declarative.

By the way, I would say that "ponerse enfadado" is not incorrect, although it does sound a bit awkward in your sentence. In other sentences, such as "se puso muy enfadado" sounds perfectly fine. Actually "ponerse enfadado" is quite the same as enfadarse, but it focuses more on a whimsical change of attitude (a bit childish, ¡Me pongo enfadado! = Now I'm turning into angry mood!) than in a natural process cause-effect.

You can also hear "No hagas que que me enfade". The expression "hacer que alguien se enfade" is a synonym of "enfadar a alguien"

In the process of being angry en el proceso de enojarse.
