Aras has two meanings:

1.- En aras de la educacion

 For the sake of the education

2.- las aras de la iglesia- El altar de la iglesia

 The altar of the church

You mean, "What does 'aras' mean in English?"

I think you should have typed

En aras de la paz...

En aras de means 'for the sake of'', 'in honor of' - it depends on context.

So the phrase might mean,

"For the sake of the peace...", "In honor of the peace..."
