One question regarding the phrase in the phrasebook:
El tío Ramon echa de menos sus hijos
Why isn't it:
El tío Ramon echa de menos a sus hijos
Sorry to add another question to this thread. I think it is a direct object, but still shouldn't there be a personal "a".

This is in the Phrasebook: echar de menos.
You're missed around here.
Means something simmilar as "we miss you".
And is "El tío RamÓN echa de menos A sus hijos" because it represents "to them". In grammar that is called indirect complement .
