I have a suggestion for admin....

I might be stepping over the line here a bit but perhaps at the top of the "last activity" list - any mods that are on-line could "appear" there - kind of log them in and out - or perhaps in a special section - you know, so that when there's a problem, which I see there is one now, or perhaps developing, I could send a PM straight to that moderator.

Or is there perhaps some other indication already on the home-page that I'm not familiar with....

Why not use the flag system? One of the options when you flag is that the thread/post needs moderator attention so I assume that they are notified in some way.

Good point Mary. You know what I actually forgot about "flagging" - shows how often I flag someone - thanks for the reminder :) - nonombre, Nov 27, 2011
No problem :) - MaryMcc, Nov 27, 2011
On my first week on site I thought the flag was to make it look pretty , so I flagged some poor cow , he probably has never forgiven me , ah well ignorance is bliss. - ray76, Nov 28, 2011
LoL Ray thank you for making me laugh. - MaryMcc, Nov 28, 2011
Ray! since when have cows been masculine? :) - ian-hill, Nov 28, 2011
Ray, so did I! I thought it was to say a post was very good.! \luckily a message said I didn't have enough points to do flagging and I've never dared try again. I still don't know what it's for,LOL. - annierats, Nov 28, 2011
Hay Annierats, I was yet another lucky one who didn't have enough points! :D - territurtle, Nov 28, 2011

The only problem I see with that, Annie, is that I am always logged in and my computer is always on.....so it will appear that I'm online when I'm really not at home. However, let's see what the upper Admin has to say. Maybe we can sign in only when we are actually here, which will give you a "go to" person.

In the interim, Mary's got the best idea-- flag a problem right away. A flag is the first thing that I see when I sign online.

I really like your idea Annie, it'd very helpful, and of course it's much easier than looking for admins who are online. smile

But this would cause problems if there are no admins online, anybody who would like to mess around the forum would only have to see if there are admins or not, if not then you never know what happens, but l guess it wouldn't be more harmful than useful wink and admins are normally around smile

Normally if a post gets 4 flags it gets automatically deleted so the flagging idea is a good one too. smile

I didn't know that, I have always only flagged if no one has before me (and only for clear profanity). If I had known this I might have added my flag to a few posts that took a while to disappear. :-) - Stadt, Nov 28, 2011
I didn't either, useful to know when things are obviously spam. - MaryMcc, Nov 29, 2011

HI annie, I put the idea forward to the "upper admins" and they are looking into it.

My schedule is hectic too, as I workwink, however, I am very frequently online so I think yours is an excellent ideagrin

This is what one of the persons in charge said:

Sounds like a good suggestion, I will discuss it with Chris and see what we can do about it.

I suggested maybe a little light or something, or some kind of other mark.

The flag function should only be used if there is a serious problem going on.

to flag a newbie because they are not following the rules "exactly" is not a good idea in my opinion.

A newbie was recently flagged and he said this, which I found reasonable, he was not sure which the boundaries of a joke were.

  1. I was flagged once for a post I thought it was funny, I might have misjudged my post. I changed it. My point is, a principle instruction to clear the main rules could have helped. Also I think to flag a new participate is a little bit hard, I would have changed my post if I understood the other point of view in any way.

I don't know what the problem was but if it was a newbie fooling around, I think there a better ways to handle it than flag him.

In light of Mariana's comment, I would suggest the admin be given the option of "showing" their online status. - territurtle, Nov 28, 2011
I agree Terri - Yeser007, Nov 28, 2011

I'm a bit in the same boat as Mariana on this one. My personal schedule is fairly hectic, and I often get pulled away—often while in the midst of answering a question—so that I may be logged on for two or three hours or more without ever actually being in front of the computer.

I do usually check the flags as soon as I get back on, however.

Well I'm in total agreement with the flag system because when I am on that is the first place I go. While I am here I keep going back to it from time to time and it is the last link I click before I leave so it only makes sense. There have also been times that I've started looking at a flagged post only to find another admin has already gotten to it first. You can always send me a pm at any time and I will get back when I'm on.

OK I'm for the Skype system where we have an online or offline status. Though I follow the flag system closely I do want to say that I hate the indiscriminate flagging that so often happens so if a status system can be put in place then that will be good.

Aslong as I don't have to sign on and off each time I come on. That would drive me crazier than I already am. - Yeser007, Nov 28, 2011

It does not happen all to often, but as I said before, a new member gets flagged...not good, only to call our attention?

Unless it is a breach of conduct or serious breach of rules, the flag system should be used discretely, just like Annie was suggesting, it is much better to contact an admin.

I hope we can get this function working, I don't know if that would be possible, but anyway, there is always hope, jeje

thanks for the post, Anniesmile

Thank you all for replying so promptly - obviously you guys go "straight" to anything that is flagged and deal with it - but, you know, what Heidita said,

I suggested maybe a little light or something, or some kind of other mark.

I think that's a fantastic idea - it could be an "optional" thing for an "admini" that's actually "on-site" rather than, you know, someone who's going about their (other) day. Then, if I was a bit "nervous" about flagging somebody - I could send a PM to the person with the light on and ask them what they think.

I think it's a cool idea. If I were to change anything on this site, I would make it able to "friend" somebody. Therefore you don't forget their username (I know this sounds silly but I'm a Miss. Forgetful) and you can email them instantously.
