pedazo del alma , formal ?

pedazo del alma . I find its meaning is “my dear or my love ” in the dictionary. Is it formal used in the daily life ? I am hoping that someone can explain it to me . thanks !

I am sure you understand that "Pedazo del alma" (Piece of the soul) would mean "Piece of my soul." More than formal, it is romantic, no? This is how a lover might address his or her lover in a song or letter.

So yes, it is a romantic way of addressing one's lover or soulmate.
