Hello everyone and welcome to my new thread.
The Strange Adventures of Capitan Irregular. And who on earth is Capitan Irregular? Read here!

link text

I will moderate English used and Mariana has kindly agreed to moderate any Spanish in this thread. And although it probably seems my threads are somewhat frivolous, the paths they represent in my Spanish language journey are not. To moderate a thread is hard work and time consuming for the moderator. Please re-visit your post and make any corrections Mariana has suggested

And so here's how this thread will work. Hopefully every two or three weeks I will post a new adventure. The game? To post a sentence, both in Spanish and English about the Capitan's latest adventure And the rules of my thread---

No more than two sentences.
Both in Spanish and English and no translators to be used under any circumstances.

Here is a picture of the Captain's first adventure so to get us off and running I"ll start!

(Although Captain Irregular has no fear of spiders, in fact The Captain suffers from aichmophobia and has no idea how he is going to rescue his most precious possession!)

The Captain starts by singing his new song 'Heidi has gone' to the big spider because he has heard of snake charmers and he thinks that perhaps music can also calm spiders.

is it ok to use some regular as well as irregular verbs? I'm guessing that's the aim of having the Captain Irregular theme - to become more familiar with irr verbs or doesn't it matter? Interesting idea hope you get lot of takers :) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 26, 2011
Hi there Kiwi - my original idea was to "concentrate" on the irregulars - but no all verbs "most welcome" :) - nonombre, Nov 26, 2011
Y tu respuesta Kiwi - muy creativa :) - nonombre, Nov 26, 2011
Y tu araña tiene dientes tan grande :( - nonombre, Nov 26, 2011
je je gracias :) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 26, 2011
Great start! "Canción" and big spider would be "araña grande." - --Mariana--, Nov 27, 2011
thanx Mariana - if the 'gran' is being used to express emotion about it's size more than just describing it does it work to go in front? gran araña? :) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 27, 2011
"Gran araña" would mean the "Great spider" instead of big. - --Mariana--, Nov 27, 2011
ah ok, gracias :) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 28, 2011

In another attempt at distracting the spider, the Captain shouted in a loud voice, "Oh! It's an enormous cat that eats spiders!" Unfortunately, the spider just laughed.

Captain Irregular suffers from aichmophobia and yet doesn't fear spiders! I hope that Captain Irregular never sees one up close. Their fangs are very pointed and sharp.

I too am afraid of Spiders, but at least there aren't spiders living in my head, if only the captain could say the same!

Pero la arañanita se negó. -No quiero volver a nuestra teleraña, mamí. Quiero viajar para ver todo el mundo. Voy a quedarme encima de este gorro. Voy a viajar a lugares exóticos! --

After having handed over the Captain's necklace, the mother spider said to her daughter "Get down from there!"

But the little daughter spider refused. "I don't want to go back to our spiderweb, Mama! I want to travel and see the the whole world! I'm going to stay right here on top of the Captain's hat. I'm going to travel to exotic places!

(Can you post in English as well though - you know, so the "sprookies" (Spanish Rookies) can enjoy the answer as well! ) - nonombre, Nov 27, 2011
"Que te bajes" is subjunctive because you are stating a wish (or command) here with "Que." - --Mariana--, Nov 28, 2011
Lol, Marianne, did you know that I actually awoke in the night with that same thought? The Subjunctive Fairy must have visited me in my sleep! - MLucie, Nov 28, 2011

But the spider is not seduced or charmed by the song. So now The Captain must come up with another plan.

It is fortunate that the Captain is wearing his gloves because they stop him from biting his fingernails in his nevousness.

Aquí tienes tu collar precioso y guardapelo. Te deseo mucho éxito."

Suddenly, the big spider recogonized the little spider on top of the Captain's hat.

What happiness! The mother spider has finally found her baby! Now, the Captain is her hero!

The mother spider says to the Captian, "I really appreciate this, Captian. Here is your precious necklace with locket. I wish you the very best success."

No vas conmigo.

.

Although the Captain isn't afraid of spiders, as has already been said, he thought that carrying a little spider on his head as well as on his leg would be very inconvenient in his travels. He did not want to have to go all over the world covered in adventurous arachnid tourists. So he said firmly to the baby spider, "Get down from there. You're not coming with me. Besides, passports for spiders are very hard to get nowadays."

.

I know, I sorta went over the two-sentence limit..... sorry. I'll try and be a little more brief next time. red face

Capitan Irregular was tired of being afraid of sharp things. He knew he had to overcome his fear, then he could reach around the pointed leaves to rescue his prized possession.
