Although I live in the United States, I have never been more (farther) west than Texas.

In English wouldn't you say...I have never been farther west than Texas? - 0074b507, Nov 26, 2011
I guess you could, yes. But you couldn't say, further west. :) - Tosh, Nov 26, 2011
I would say here , " I have never been any further west than ". - ray76, Nov 26, 2011
http://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/further - ray76, Nov 26, 2011
Interesting. In the States, we would use "farther" to indicate "distance". I walked farther than Ray. - Tosh, Nov 27, 2011
And we would use "further" to indicate a figurative distance. Ray is further along in his Spanish studies than I am. - Tosh, Nov 27, 2011

Here in New Zealand if you want to own a warm and sunny house it's important that you buy one that is facing west.

Still there are is a lot of distrust when the West meets with the East.

The west of Ireland is the most beautiful part of the country but also suffers a lot from the weather because there is nothing more than a huge ocean beside it.

For many years the decline of the west was foretold, but now not only the west , but the whole world is in crisis.

Better: For many years the decline of the west was fortold. Now, not only the west, but the whole world is in crisis. (Putting the word 'but' twice in the same sentence seems a little clumsy). - Maria-Russell, Nov 26, 2011

In English, it is important to use capital letters with "The West" to describe things referring to the Western world, Western culture or civilization derived from European origin.

Where I live in Spain, in the country, it is quieter than the West of the city where all the tourists go for their holidays.

The west coast of the USA is sometimes referred to as "the left coast" because it has many groups of people with left-leaning politics.
