Hi, Mayle!!

Is Bembos a brand name? And do you mean McDonald's, like the fast food place?

Bembos expends discount coupons. Similarly, McDonald's is programmed to expend them.

We would use expends here, not expend because Bembos is a brand name (I'm assuming). Though it ends in an 's', in English, we still consider a brand name to be singular. Thus, expends!

Be programmed doesn't quite work here. Just change that "be" to "is" and we're good to go.

Since you use "discount coupons" in the first part, there is no need to say it again. Therefore, I have McDonald's is programmed to expend them instead of ...to expend discount coupons. Saying "discount coupons" is repetitive and unnecessary, but by no means wrong if you do decide to use it instead of "them".

Good job, Mayle!

thanks SonrisaDelSo yes, Bembos is a brand name here in Perú; similarly, to Mac Donald. - maylegoas, Nov 22, 2011
I almost never use the word "expend"for anything. - Goyo, Nov 23, 2011

For a condensed way, you could just say:

Bembos issues discount coupons, as does McDonalds.

I agree that "issues" is probably the best verb to use. A bit less formal is:

Bembos hands out discount coupons...

Moe has some good suggestions, but note that 2) and 3) introduce another meaning (that of Bembos and McDonalds competing through the use of coupons), which I'm not sure you intend. It seems that you're just saying they have the same kind of coupon program.

Maylegoas said:
"Bembos expide cupones de descuento; del mismo modo, Mac Donald está programado para hacerlo"
"Bembos expend discount coupons; similarly Mac Donald be programmed to expend discount coupons"

Here are some other ways to say this in English:
1 - Bembos issues discount coupons and in the same way McDonalds will also give out discount coupons.
2 - Bembos is giving out discount coupons so to compete McDonalds will do it too.
3 - To compete with Bembos, McDonalds will also issue discount coupons.

Thanks Moe overall to remember to answer me - maylegoas, Nov 23, 2011
Moe, is Mac Donald "be" programmed, is not "is"? - maylegoas, Nov 23, 2011
Sorry, Maylegoas, I missed your comment here. Say "will be", a future tense, not "be" and not "is". - Moe, Nov 23, 2011

You mean expends not expend because Bembos is a singular brand name. Also, you mean McDonald's, the fast food franchise, not Mac Donald. Good luck! (iBuena suerte!) grin grin

¡Hola!, Maylegoas:

In English, the word 'expend' is used to mean that something is spent. It may be money which is spent to buy labour in the form of workers' services, material to be used in manufacture, or to pay rent or buy land and buildings. I am not sure that the hamburger sellers, Bembos or McDonalds can properly be said to 'expend' discount coupons. Perhaps more properly they give discount coupons to customers as an incentive so customers will buy more hamburgers in the future. But for me, the hamburger sellers do not 'expend' as that word is understood, discount coupons.

Please write what you want to say using your own Spanish language. Between your English question as you have asked it and your Spanish question meaning the same thing, perhaps we can give you a better answer.

Muchos saludos/Best regards,
Moe

Hola Maylegoas

Bembos gives out discount coupons as does Macdonalds.

you could also say .... as will Macdonalds.

as I think from your sentance...........Mac Donald está programado para hacerlo"

you mean Macdonalds will in the futuro.

hasta pronto
