no in spanish is simply 'no'. e.g. Qu: ¿hablas espanol? Ans: No, no hablo espanol. the second no means i don't because it is in front of the verb. Most of the time it depends on the sentence. Hope this helped

"no" is, of course "no". "don't" is the negation of "do" (when used as a helping verb) and has no direct translation in Spanish (nor in many other languages). e.g. "I don't speak ..." / "No hablo ..." --- "Don't do that!" / "¡No hagas eso!" --- "Do you understand?" - "No, I don't." / "¿Entiendes?" - "No, no entiendo." In Spanish (and many other languages the "do/don't" shortcut doesn't exist because there is no such all-purpose auxiliary. One needs to repeat the (underlying) verb.

For the same reason, "Yes, I do." or "No, I don't." have no meaning without some preceding context to supply what it is that you do/don't do.

The word is "don't", yes? Meaning "do not". This could be "I do not ... understand Spanish very well" or it could be "Do not eat that awful thing!" (Don't eat that ...) Can you clarify? confused
