you can sign off saying...

Saludos = Best wishes (informal) y/o un abrazo and/or a hug

The problem is that you have not been specific or given us much information about why you would like to thank your friend so I/we could not give you any more help. If you could try to write a letter to your friend in Spanish or at least write what you would like to say in English we might have some better idea how to help you.
