Postcodes in Spain?
The other day at work 2 spanish women came in to buy bed sheets, and decided they didn't like one of them and wanted to exchange for another colour. In Argos we need to take a postcode with every return to try and prevent fraud, and the language barrier caused some problems. I was badly needed on tills but as i was walking over, i asked whether they spoke francais or español at which point they said yes to the spanish and i thought i'd be able to quickly help. But unfortunately the first word they said was incomprehensible to me and i just froze, my mind went blank and said that i was out of my depth before running to the massive que forming at the tills. They ended up going away happy of course!
i think we must have just put in one of our own postcodes seeing as they didn't have one and they obviously weren't being fraudulent.
In hindsight i think i should have stumbled along and said something along the lines of: "¿ Dónde vives? ¿En Inglaterra o En España?" before trying to explain: "En Inglaterra tienes unos números del caminos y esta nececidad por ____"
Would that have been understandable? Are postcodes used in Spain and how would one go about explaining the need for one?
Thankyou!

Sí por supuesto que tienen códigos postales en España. Por ejemplo : 08038 es el código de la calle Mayor (038) en Barcelona (08). Google te dará los demás código para toda España.
I don´t know about Spain, but in Colombia we don´t use any postcode, so maybe you just gotta ask for the adress. I think is the same in many other countries. =D
