Hola! I am attempting to use a direct object pronoun and want to make sure I'm correct. Here is my sentence. "Mis estaciones favoritas son la primavera y el verano. Yo los gusta."

Is this correct? Thanks for your help!

I don't have "les" as an option. I have me, te, lo, la nos, os, los or las. - nicoleincos, Nov 18, 2011

Yo los gusta. (and "Yo les gusta")

Both are incorrect. Lorenzo supplied the correct phrase. Questions about "gustar" come up several time per week and a search of the forum will turn up scores of pages of threads on this topic.

For the parallel syntax in English, think about "disgust" (opposite emotion but the same syntax as the Spanish) . Although less colloquial, if you think of the translation as being "is/are pleasing to ..." you will (should) arrive at the proper grammatical construction for Spanish.

The grammatical subject of "gustar" is/are the thing(s) that cause(s) the sensation/emotion (not [as in modern English] the person who experiences it).

Yo los gusta.. and yo les gusta are both incorrect.

If you said, Les gusta... you would be saying something like "It is pleasing to them" or "they like" ..... Pero...si quisieras decir " I like them" sería "me gustan."

me gustan ellos - lorenzo9, Nov 18, 2011
I believe lorenzo9 to be correct but would someone more competant than me step in here and explain the gustar rules to jlexen and nicoleincos as they are both on the wrong trail and it is an important subject. Thanks - caza, Nov 18, 2011
