Which is more correct and why?
- Pasé en taxi hasta el aeropuerto y llegué allí temprano.
- Fui en taxi hasta el aeropuerto y llegué allí temprano.

It's not that one is more correct than the other, it depends on what you are trying to say, in this case you were saying two different things.
A really simple example:
Pasé por tu casa I went by your house
Fui a tu casa - I went to your house.

Pasé en taxi por el aeropuerto y llegué allí temprano. (allí meaning another place, not the airport)
Fui en taxi hasta el aeropuerto y llegué allí temprano.
