"Lo único" (con acento) - "The only thing" (referring to an idea)

El único comes before a masculine noun, like: "El único hombre" - "The only man". notice that "único/a" is an adjective that changes meaning depending on its placement before or after the noun. "El hombre único"- "The unique man"

Lo único refers to/modifies a neuter gender noun (abstract concept)...lo único (noun) que quiero es....

el único refers to/modifies a masculine noun...el único carro....(adjetivo)

la única refers to/modifies a feminine noun...la única cosa...(adjetivo)

lo+adjective=noun (neuter gender)

lo más importante=the most important thing

lo siguiente=the following thing

lo único =the only thing
