Adjectives describe a noun.

These are the Spanish possessive adjectives:

There are five possessive adjectives. The first three only have singular and plural forms but the last two have masculine and feminine as well as singular and plural forms.

My - mi and mis plural Your - tu and tus plural Your (formal), His, Her - su and sus plural

Our - nuestro, nuesta, nuestros and nuestras

Your - vuestro, vuestra, vuestros and vuestras

.

Possessive adjectives say who owns the noun.

Mi libro. = My book.

Possessive adjectives must agree with the noun that they modify not with the person who owns the noun.

Mis libros = My books.

Nuestras hermanas. = Our sisters.

Spanish has both long form possessive adjectives and short form possessive adjectives. The short form ones have been described for you. If you wish to know about the long form one look here:

mi libro=my book=short form possessive adjective

el libro mío=my book=long form possessive adjective

Es mío. It is mine. (possessive pronoun)
