"it was two months ago" = hace dos meses .... ?

Question

For some reason my brain is stuck on "it was". I think that "hace + time" is used to show how much time has passed ... but if I want to say "it was two months ago," do I need to add anything else to my phrase, or is just "hace dos meses" enough?

Two months ago = hace dos meses

Por ejemplo:

Fui a España hace dos meses = I went to Spain two months ago.

You wouldn't normally translate the English words ''it was'' if they are just referring to how long ago something happened but if they refer to something that actually happened two months ago you would do so.

It was raining two months ago when I stayed in Paris = Estaba lloviendo hace dos meses cuando pasaba tiempo en Paris

The words '' it was '' would influence which tense you would conjugate the verb to:in this case imperfect estaba lloviendo = it was raining.

Or, It was a terrible accident = Fue un accidente terrible
