Tosh has it exactly... They are sunbathing, and Hobbes checks himself all over, then says "Maybe I used too strong a sunscreen?"

I LOVE Calvin and Hobbes. So thanks for poinging the Spanish version out to me. No longer out in English.

Here's my favorite C & H. It was a Sunday strip. Calvin is in the bathtub and his mother is filling the tub with water. He is in a sour mood. He says,

It's too cold! (his mother adjusts the temperature)

Now it's too hot! (his mother adjusts the temperature)

This repeats a few times until the last frame, where Calvin says

Now it's too deep!

Maybe you had to be there, but this is is my all time favorite.

Maybe because he is still so white and orange and isn't getting any darker?

Is "pantalla solar" a real phrase in Spanish?

Yes, apparently it is.

I had noticed that, too. In Mexico we called it either bloqueador del sol or bloqueador solar. Somehow I remember it as being bloqueador del sol - I'm almost sure of it - but when I googled this it was bloqueador solar. Pantalla solar is also an option in some countries, as is crema del sol.

Is "pantalla solar" a real phrase in Spanish? It sounds like a bad translation to me. Or maybe it's a play on words?

The English version may help you understand:

After all, it was created in English, and the Spanish translation may just be weak.

"I think I'm using too strong a sun screen"

Maybe they used a translator (like google), and "sun screen" was literally translated. I would have made use of the word for suntan lotion: *bronceador"
