Consider yourself lucky - I have had 6 laptops in 11 years (one was stolen)

By the way don't buy another laptop unless there is a good reason to do so.

Desktop computers last about twice as long as laptops and are cheaper.

How many did you spill coffee on? - 0074b507, Nov 16, 2011
One died of "old age" - 2 from failure of glued in graphics chips. - one from a defective screen - 1 from a crashed hard drive. - ian-hill, Nov 16, 2011
And it is more economical to buy a new one than to pay for repairs, in those cases. - EL_MAG0, Nov 17, 2011

Yes, Hidita I have a techical problem. No sound comes out of my computer as of 2 days ago. Some one looked at and said thought the sound card has burned out. This is a lap top (IBM ThinkPad) that is 11 years old and it's time to up grade. I'll do what I can on my own with learning here on the website. Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate it.

11 years! That´s 77 dog years and about 200 computer years. Generally, it is more difficult (and more expensive) to replace parts in a laptop than in a desk-top but it's usually possible. Nonetheless, after 11 years , yes, you should definitely think about an up-grade (new computer).

You could try Device Manager (if you use Windows) to determine if it is the hardware or the device driver software that is malfunctioning. But I agree. Time for an upgrade. - 0074b507, Nov 16, 2011

Yes, I guess I do, but...it's really more of a problem at this point, I am afraid. How am going to follow the lessons and if I can't hear them.
