As a foreigner in several countries, I've found it best never to apologise. Smile! Try again. Once you start to apologise you're apt to go to pieces, it's better to plough on and hope to improve in time. I don't think we can help our accents. Some people go to Australia for three weeks and come back sounding as they were born there. I've been in England for 30 years and still retain a Swedish accent. When I was young I really tried to get rid of it but I couldn't. Now I just think I'm part of the variety of life.
