The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

No puedo recordar cuándo era una criatura, pero estoy seguro de que era perfecto.

I cannot remember when I was a baby, but I am sure that I was perfect. alt text

Recently hatched birds can be very ugly creatures, but that is only temporary.

Los pájaros recién nacidos pueden ser criaturas muy feas, pero es solo temporal.

When I was a baby I used to think a lot about adults. I couldn't understand why there are so much untruth, distrust and hypocrisy in their world.

Cuando era una criatura solía pensar mucho en los adultos. No podía comprender por qué su mundo está lleno de mentira, desconfianza y e hipocresía.

"... e hipocresía." Qué filosófico te has puesto!! jeje - RaulSpaniard, Nov 14, 2011

Da igual el sexo, la religión o el lugar, todas las criaturas nacen con un pan debajo del brazo.wink

No matter sex, religion or place, all babies are born with a loaf of bread under the arm.

En el mundo de las criaturas, todo es nuevo y bien vale su admiración.

In the world of the babies, everything is new and worth their admiration.

In my younger days I saw a film called "Creature From The Black Lagoon". I was petrified from the beginning of the film to the end.

Cuando era jóven vi una película que se llamó La criatura de la laguna negra. Desde el principio hasta al final estaba aterrorizado.

A diestro y siniestro, alguien puede llegar a ser padres a las criaturas.

Right or wrong, anyone can become parents to babies.

Corrections:
A diestro y siniestro, cualquiera puede llegar a ser padre de criaturas.

Yes that is rather unjust. You mustn't manufacture a table without knowledge, but you can have a child without any - porcupine7, Nov 14, 2011
I'm not sure but, I'd say: ... alguien/cualquiera puede llegar a ser padre de criaturas... - RaulSpaniard, Nov 14, 2011
Raul, I'm not sure if you mean to put both alguien/cualquiera or are you just saying to drop the a las to add 'de'? - katydew, Nov 14, 2011
Probably I don't understand exactly what you want to say with "Right or wrong" - RaulSpaniard, Nov 14, 2011
...es una lástima.... - 001a2987, Nov 14, 2011

Cada vez que veo a mi esposa con un bebé, me recuerda que los seres humanos tienen los instintos también, y que el instinto de cuidar de las criaturas es muy importante.

Every time that I see my wife with a baby, it reminds me that human beings have instincts as well, and that the instinct to care for newborns is very important.

Todos los días hago lo mismo cosa. Primero leo mis correos electrónicos, veo el foro y digo hola a mis amigos en Skype. Creo que puedo decir que soy una criatura de hábito.

Every day I do the same thing. First I read my e-mails, look at the forum and say hello to my friends on Skype. I think I can say I am a creature of habit.

Recuerda que aun la persona que te da miedo más hasta la persona que más miedo te da empezó como una criatura diminuta. Remember that even the person that you are most scared of began as a tiny baby.
