Note: This word will be the official Word of the Day and will be posted December 13, 2011.

DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

This thread is kindly moderated by drvicente. Please correct your posts according to drvicente’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

Estoy planeando hacer un recorrido a España para recoger a mi novia, y entonces viajaremos por la luna para visitar a nuestra amiga.

I am planning a journey to Spain to pick up my girlfriend, and then we will travel to the moon to visit our friend.

La ruta del Cares es un recorrido fascinante que atraviesa un desfiladero donde puedes contemplar un paisaje único e irrepetible. wink

The Cares route is a fascinating path that goes through a ravine where you can contemplate a unique and unrepeatable lanscape.

Las golondrinas támbien hacen un recorrido muy largo dos veces por año, de África del Sur hasta escandinavia, donde crían dos nidanas todos los veranos. En otoño recorren su vuelo largo a África con todos los jovenes.

The swallows also make a very long journey twice a year, from South Africa to Scandinavia, where they rear two broods every summer. In the autumn they make the long flight back to Africa with all the youngsters.

I think that on our journey through life there are more pleasant moments than disappointments.

Creo que en nuestro recorrido por la vida hay más momentos agradables que decepciones.

The most difficult, sometimes very long, but the most wonderful journey is a journey to find yourself.

El recorrido más difícil, a veces muy largo, pero más maravilloso es un recorrido para encontrar ti mismo.

A mí me parece que el señor Berlusconi es un hombre muy recorrido.

I think that Mr Berlusconi is a man who has been around/he's seen a thing or two.

This is a colloquial saying

Hey Rez, good try, I would use empecé - when you're stressing the beginning or end of something the preterite usually works better than the imperfect which describes something taking time in the past to complete :) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 13, 2011
and a common way to say ago is hace - hace seis meses :) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 13, 2011
oh. thanks a lot :) - Rez-, Nov 13, 2011
(oh and I don't think you need the me because you're not starting yourself just a journey je je :) ) - Kiwi-Girl, Nov 13, 2011

Si estás planeando un viaje a la nieve en Nueva Zelanda, en vez de un recorrido autoguiado, una guía de esquí les puede ayudar a los esquiadores expertos para conseguir un recorrido personalizado de las estaciones de alpino y sacar el máximo partido de sus vacaciones.

If you are planning a trip to the snow in New Zealand, instead of a self-guided tour, a ski guide can help expert skiers to get a personalized tour of the Alpine Resorts and to get the most out of their holiday.
