Hello,

Which is correct?

**Me da gusto saber que estás bien.

Me da gusto saber que estes bien.**

If it's not 'estes' then I'm confused. ?

Thank you!

When I googled the sentence using 'estés', it came up in many hits by native speakers but with estás. Initially, I thought it was estés, but I'm wondering if because SABER is used, if that changes it to estás. - Anna, Nov 11, 2011

This question about subjunctive vs. indicative reminds me of the Spanish for "Thank goodness it's Friday". My colleague from Honduras always said at the end of the workweek: "Gracias a Dios que es viernes". When a student asked why she used "es", her reply was "because it is Friday".

"I am pleased that you are happy". The question is one of focus. Is the person happy? Or might the person be happy; is there a possibility of variance ion the person's mood?

This is why some of the hard and fast rules do not always apply, no matter which language is being studied.

Good question!

Is there an accent on estés? That could make all the difference in your answers.

My vote is for estés. I believe this sentence calls for the subjunctive. [But please, please, please wait for further confirmation on that as I am not a native]

Sonrisa is too modest, as usual. Estés is the 2nd person singular of subjunctive form and means "you are". - Jeremias, Nov 11, 2011
Was my subjunctive use right?!?! Boooo yaaaahhhh :D - SonrisaDelSol, Nov 11, 2011

I'd use the subjunctive here, me da gusto saber que estés bien.
