Hacked78910
Somehow somebody hacked one of my accounts and sent garbage email to everyone in my address list. Does anyone have advice about how to not let this happen as it is a pain. Thanks

NEVER open an attachment unless you are 100% sure about it.
I mean these guys are most certainly clever about it...
the mail I got hacked with was mailed to me by a policeman, fellow diver, who had taken some photos and was going to send them to me.
The mail had an attachment: Mira las fotos

I opened it. Jeeeeeeeeeeeez.
So, my advice, don't even open if EVEN though you are sure, jeje
You must have software to protect your computer.
I have several but I have had Comodo recommended, which is free.

This has happened to me recently, get hold of your contacts, your account will probably be blocked.
they hacked my account and I, without knowing, resent the stuff to my contacts, among others Eddy, whose account was also hacked as he opened the link I had supposedly sent him. ![]()
change the password, and tell your friends not to open any links.
this is happening all the time now. I wonder what the problem is with this.
You wouldn't happen to use one of those free software programs that monitors and collects your mail from all of your email addresses would you? They seem particularly susceptible to being hacked. I used one that monitored my gmail, hotmail, aol mail, yahoo mail, ICQ mail, MSN mail, WindowsLive mail and my ISP mailbox. My contact list was accessed twice while I was using that program until I finally quit using it. No problems since.
I think my computer is fine, it's a Mac. The problem is I use so-called "cloud-mailing" which means that all my mailing stuff is on a Yahoo server somewhere out there in the ozone. It works very well but the down side is that I don't have much "hands-on" control over the system. I'm going to stick with it though unless it happens again.
Yes there isn't much I can do apart from changing the password and warning people not to open it. Thanks
I have heard that Mac has M U C H less problems than an ordinary P C...so stick with the Mac programs. -
Yes that's right. I've never had a virus and I've been using them from 1986. Although if you use Microsoft stuff you're vulnerable so I don't use Word for example, I just save as Word from Open Office.
The mail virus I got there had nothing to do with the Mac either, it's because I use an internet server for mail. I'm on Yahoo and nothing (unless I deliberately tell it to) downloads on to the Mac
