Alimentos o Comida?

Question

Both mean "Food"? I just read alimentos on this site, and just need clarification and if one is more common than the other? Gracias!

Don't forget "comestible," also. It's a Spanish and English word, spelled the same in both languages, and means the same. It means "food," also.

I have the same question as you did. "lorenzo9" offered a good link and I found one of the participants gave a good explanation. However, he answered it in Spanish, so I used SD's translator to make it understandable for beginners like me. The following is what he said:

I have always used "alimentos" when I'm getting groceries and "comida" when I'm cooking or eating out. I could be off, but that has seemed to be way it has been used by some of the natives I hang around.

Thankyou you both. I enjoy reading in Spanish but it gets hard when your not sure of the meaning and the meaning is in spanish. I'm still a newbie.
