Does anyone use [alt_text]?

Does anyone use [alt_text]?

I recently learned something about posting pictures:

when posting a picture, the format is as follows:

![alt_text]: the part where the caption is

(path/to/filename.jpg): the part where the picture's URL goes.

The [alt_text] part can be changed to be a caption for the picture

For Example Scroll over both of these pictures-- they are the same-- but leave your mouse there for a second and see what each one says

alt_text

The second one:

SpanishDict.com

Notice how the second one has a SpanishDict Caption

I haven't seen anyone do this and hoped that it would help to understand what pictures are.

I just wanted to share my knowledge with everyone!!

I hope this helped!!

Hi Sora,

What you are describing is an example of markdown.

A while back, there was an article posted on the use of Markdown (not to be confused with html, i.e. "markup") to help members with various simple formatting tricks: Line breaks, pictures, links and other formatting tricks

If you are interested, there is also another article on some quick tricks with html that can be useful on the forum: How do make your posts more colorful

Both of the article contain links to external resources on these topics if you are interested.

It depends on the browser, whether or not the alt text show this way.

In any case, it is text that shows prior to the picture loading, and shows if the graphics fails to load.
